I’ve always feared motherhood in every aspect. The pregnancy, the delivery, the endless nights, the unforgiving sleep deprivation and the constant threat of never having “me time” ever again!

My son Jaxson was born in January 2016 and I soon found myself amidst all my real life fears. Wow, I had never known tired to this extent. I lacked focus and drive. I withdrew from my friends, and I found it impossible to have time for any self-care.

Every morning, day and night was the same

Every morning, day and night was the same. Wake up, no shower, pour a hot coffee but then later find it cold. Fight with diaper changes and feeds as my son had difficulty latching and then later, grew picky of the solids he once liked. I would invest hours into naptime routines only to yield a mere 20-30 minutes of sleep.

I concluded the day with bath time, bedtime, some laundry and a quick call to my husband who worked away from town. At night, I would lay my head and anxiously await another early morning wake up call.

Growing Anxious

I grew anxious of the coming months and my soon return to work. How would I juggle it all: the groceries, housework, laundry, meal prep, cooking, dog walking and a full time nursing job. I wasn’t sure, but financially and mentally, I had to return to work. This is when I found my passion for sewing.

The Beginning of
JaxSon & Mum

I had never sewn before but one day when I was shopping, I found this cute bib that was extremely overpriced and I thought to myself, “I could make this and for a fifth of the cost”. So I did! I bought some fabric, did some research, dusted off the sewing machine and began sewing.

Trial & Error

The beginning was a lot of trial and error but I did not accept defeat and instead aimed for perfection. My confidence grew as all my new mom friends saw, liked and wanted some bibs of their own. JaxSon&Mum was created. After bibs, I began expanding to faux infinity drool scarves, stretchy knit toques, headbands and cotton crib rail guards. The options are endless and I plan to introduce new products as time moves along.

Scarves, Toques, Headbands, Crib Rail Guards

I had indeed uncovered a new hobby, and I couldn’t believe how cathartic sewing was. Jaxson was ironically both a stressor in my life, as well as my inspiration and my solace. I always try to remember the place that I was in and how therapeutic it can be to do something that you love, even for just a few minutes a day.

I love my son, and I wouldn’t trade motherhood for the world, but I know there are moms out there just like me who felt the way that I did. Find your happy place and remember to love yourself first, so that we can be there for those who love us when they really need us most.

Hi! Welcome to JaxSon&Mum and thanks for stopping by!

Here you will find affordable baby creations for the new love in your life. JaxSon&Mum began when I started creating affordable items for my one year old son Jaxson. He is a constant drooler and I was changing his bib at least 4 times a day so I figured, why don’t I make my own!? And now here we are.

All items are handmade with care, prewashed/preshrunk and assembled by me. I am a busy mom of two boys, a husband, and am a full time RN by day and night, so please allow 5-7 business days for creation and 5-7 business days for shipping via letterman with canadapost.

Sit down, grab a coffee and stay a while!
